Guidelines

Students who withdraw from their current semester studies after the census date or have not completed the requirements of a previous semesters study for a particular course and can demonstrate special circumstances can apply in writing for:

  • Waive of academic penalty - if the application is successful, all courses applied for will be dropped without academic penalty
  • Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) - if the application is successful, the appropriate amount of SLE will be re-credited
  • FEE-HELP debt reversed
  • HECS-HELP debt reversed
  • Up-front payment of student contribution refunded
  • Direct tuition fees refunded

Students may apply if they withdraw from his or her studies after the census date or the person has not completed the requirements for the course/s.

Students cannot apply if they have successfully completed the course/s. A student who receives a fail grade is considered to not have successfully completed the unit and may apply.

An application must be made, in writing, within 12 months of the withdrawal date, or, if the person has not withdrawn, within 12 months of the end of the period of study in which the unit was, or was to be, undertaken.

Note: Students who have been offered a deferred or supplementary examination are bound by Academic Regulation 5.6.8 - Deferred and Supplementary Assessment Policy. This policy states that students who have been offered but do not take a deferred or supplementary examination will receive a Fail grade for the course. As such, applications under the Waive Academic Penalty and Fee Reversal Policy may not be considered.
