Textbooks and study materials
Textbooks
Each course specification lists the textbooks required for that course. Textbooks are able to be purchased from the USQ Bookshop at the following locations;
- Toowoomba campus Level 2, W Block
- Fraser Coast campus Student Guild office, A Block, room A126
- Springfield campus Level 6, room A6MR1
The USQ Bookshop online textbook search facility contains the latest information (including price and availability) on the textbooks required to be purchased for each course. You will need your USQ username and password to access this facility. Operating hours and conditions of pick-up for each campus bookshop are also outlined on the USQ Bookshop website.
Second-hand textbooks
Text books are also available second-hand. The Student Guild has a web service for second-hand books at www.onlinebooks.com.au. This service allows you to buy and sell current textbooks directly to and from other students. If you are selling books you must first register and login on the Student Guild web site. However, if you are buying you do not need to login, just start searching.
Students also occasionally advertise books for sale on course discussion groups and the USQ General discussion group. You can access course discussion groups from your USQStudyDesk at UConnect.
Textbooks at the Library
The Toowoomba, Springfield and Fraser Coast Libraries hold at least one copy of all textbooks and recommended readings for each course. Textbooks and in demand recommended readings are held in the Course Readings Collection of each Library. Other recommended readings are held in the Main Collection. It is important to remember that books in the Course Readings Collection are on short term loan (of either three hours or one day) and fines accrue the rate of $2.00 per hour for late return.
Accessing study materials
Most courses have materials which are delivered via the Internet. In addition to this, some of these courses are provided to students via a study package which may consist of a course CD. The CD usually contains an introductory information (overview, assessment details, communications, etc), Study Book (course content) and Selected Readings (reference materials) for each course. The print version of many courses can be purchased by students through PrintExpress or the USQ Bookshop. Please note that textbooks are not part of the study package.
All USQ students require access to a computer with Internet connection and a CD drive. You will need to check the USQ Handbook for course and program information and USQ's computing requirements prior to enrolling to ensure that your delivery choice is compatible with your learning needs.
If the course you are enrolled in includes a study package, these packages are dispatched progressively from six weeks before each semester commences. If your study package has been dispatched by course, you will receive an email which provides details such as date of despatch, method of delivery, consignment number and contents.
If you receive the email and you notice that your mailing address is incorrect, please notify Student Support as soon as possible as your study package may be able to be redirected.
Start-up materials
To enable you to have quick and early access to your learning materials, the Introductory Book and Study Book will be available for most courses to enrolled students at least one week prior to the start of semester via the USQStudyDesk from UConnect.
