Learning resource development services

DeC uses a course team approach to the design, development and production of learning materials.

Roles

The Design and Development Services section includes the roles of:

Development and Production of Learning Materials

An ID and MDO are allocated to each course team to work with the subject matter specialists. In addition, other DeC staff contribute as required, as part of multidisciplinary teams.

These teams are responsible for the design and development of new courses as well as the regular updating and maintenance of existing courses. They also play a major role in the redevelopment of courses into transmodal delivery mode.  As more flexible delivery technologies are employed in delivery of learning packages, closer liaison is required between Design and Development and other sections such as Media Services and Electronic Publishing Services.

IDs and MDOs also work on external projects and provide similar services for development of educational materials for learners from a wide range of backgrounds including other tertiary institutions and private enterprises.

Interactive Multimedia Developers prepare interactive learning materials and educational tools and research the development of screen based educational media for incorporation into learning packages.

e-Learning Project and e-Learning Support Officers provide specific assistance in a range of new technologies including learning management systems and other internet based products.  As these become more regularly used as part of course delivery, additional training and advice on how to best use such technologies are provided to academic staff.
