How do I qualify as a Guidance Officer?

Option 1 To qualify for a position as a Guidance Officer in a Queensland State School, there is a requirement to be registered as a Teacher, to havetwo years experience working with children, and to have either full registration as a Psychologist or have completed a Master of Education majoring in Guidance and Counselling.         OR

What is a Guidance Officer?

Guidance Officers work in the education sector and work with a broad range of people including students, teachers and industry to provide a range of support services including:

  • providing career counselling and planning for students and their families about their career pathway
  • assisting students with work experience placements
  • liasing with, and providing advice to, teachers, employers and industry
  • supporting students with finding employment, job applications (resumes and applications) and interview skills.
  • other titles for guidance counsellors include school counsellor, student counsellor, careers advisor, among many others.
