Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science (Mechanical Engineering)

USQ’s Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science (Geographic Information Systems) is ideal if you have a three year engineering degree and you want to extend your knowledge in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You don’t even need work experience to commence your postgraduate studies in this degree.

If you studied your undergraduate degree in a different area of engineering, this degree will allow you to change your career path and specialise in GIS.

Through this four unit degree, you will study advanced level GIS, empowering you to manage resources more effectively, manage local government assets more economically and analyse data precisely.

Further study

When you complete your Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science you could take the credit from your studies and go on to complete the Graduate Diploma of Engineering Science.  You could even go on to complete the Master of Engineering Science where you will have the opportunity to do a research project and dissertation to apply your formal knowledge to a real world issue.

Career opportunities

As a GIS graduate, you could work in GIS, spatial information analysis, planning, mapping and spatial data management. You could support practising professionals and make a difference in the future of GIS.

Professional accreditation

The Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science is not accredited by any professional bodies other than the University of Southern Queensland. It does however provide a pathway to the Master of Engineering Science which is provisionally accredited with Engineers Australia for membership as a graduate Professional Engineer.

Other majors

Other majors in the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science are: Agricultural, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Geographic Information Systems, PowerStructural and Surveying.
