Are you a registered nurse (RN) wanting to become a midwife? Well the good news is that you don’t have to start your education all over again. USQ’s Master of Midwifery is one of the few degrees that enable RNs to become registered midwives, without completing a bachelor or dual degree. Can’t afford to study full-time? We understand. There’s also the opportunity to interact with staff and students during two residential schools a year plus flexibility of placements.
What could be more fulfilling than delivery babies? Midwives also work in partnership with women during the pregnancyduring and after the birth, help with breastfeeding and care of the baby for the first six weeks of life. Midwives must also be able to provide emergency assistance when it is needed. They work in a variety of settings including private midwifery practices, hospitals, community health care facilities and in education. With partner hospitals in Toowoomba, Cairns and rural centres, the Master of Midwifery also offers you an opportunity to get your foot in the door for future employment.
The Master of Midwifery is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, with graduates eligible to apply to the Board for registration as midwives upon graduation.
