Master of Professional Accounting Extended

Change to a career in accounting

If you want to become an accountant and already have qualifications not at a bachelor level in a non-accounting field and relevant work experience, the Master of Professional Accounting Extended will get you there. The emphasis is on practical experience and preparing you thoroughly for the accounting profession through this master’s conversion program.

If your previous qualification is a bachelor or 8-unit masters degree, you will be able to complete the 12 course Master of Professional Accounting.

Accounting is critical

Accounting is a critical component of any company or institution. Accounting as a profession has seen a major shift in recent decades, from a strictly financial focus of economic accountability to a more complex role within business organisations and management. The accounting profession has also expanded to include areas such as information systems, insolvency and forensic investigations.

Career opportunities

As a graduate, your career opportunities may include public accountant, chartered accountant, company accountant, company secretary, financial administrator, investment advisor, forensic accountant, in the government (in the tax department, audit office, treasury and local government), or in financial institutions including banks and building societies.

Professional accreditation

The program satisfies the initial educational entrance requirements of both CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). This provides associate membership of CPA Australia, eligibility to study the CPA professional exams and eligibility to study the ICAA professional exams.

If you are already a graduate in accounting from an overseas university, we recommend that you obtain a qualification assessment from CPA Australia before applying to us. It is possible that you may be required to complete fewer courses to achieve associate membership. These can be studied through a Graduate Certificate in Business. If you are an overseas candidate seeking membership of your home country accounting body, full members of CPA Australia and/or ICAA are usually offered reciprocal membership. This is a fast-track to become a qualified accountant in your home country.
