What are they on about?

We know that university language can sometimes be quite foreign and confusing – but don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Undergraduate degrees

If you are coming from high school, TAFE, or have not completed any higher formal education, then an undergraduate degree is for you. These are the first steps in building your career.

Bachelor degree

Bachelor degrees create wonderful career opportunities and further education possibilities. Depending on what you want to study, bachelor degrees may take three or four years full-time to complete.

Double/Combined degree

A double or combined degree, simply put, is two bachelor degrees joined together. This degree means you will be graduating ahead of your field with extra knowledge and qualifications.

Associate degree

An associate degree only takes two years full-time, but still offers wonderful career opportunities without the commitment of an entire degree.

Diploma

Not sure if you want to commit to a whole degree? Why not study a diploma. Our diplomas, which only take one year, can give you qualifications and help you take the first step into your university education.

Honours

Honours programs allow students to hone in their research skills by building on their bachelors degree by completing a thesis.

Postgraduate degrees

Postgraduate degree programs are for people who have completed an undergraduate degree and/or have equivalent prior learning or work experience. They are a great way to deepen your knowledge or move into a new field.

Graduate Certificates/Graduate Diplomas

Graduate certificates and graduate diplomas are offered a wide variety of courses at USQ. These postgraduate qualifications often indicate advanced knowledge in your chosen field, and thus can be associated to better career opportunities.

Masters degrees

Generally after an undergraduate program has been completed, an additional 2 to 4 years of study must be undertaken in order to graduate with a masters degree.

Doctoral degrees

A doctoral degree is the highest qualification given by a university. A doctorate may include research and the completion of a thesis which is assessed externally by experts in the field.

Research degrees

Research degrees allow you to fulfil an interest in a particular area by focusing on a topic throughout your studies. Research degrees are very rewarding and allowing you to make significant contributions to the expansion of knowledge within your chosen field.

Pathways

Our pathway programs are specifically designed for students who may not meet entry requirements into a bachelors or undergraduate degree. Upon completion, these programs allow you entry into one of our degrees.
