I was a single mother when I started to study to become a teacher as a way to support myself and my baby daughter. What I didn't know then, was that teaching would change my life.

A teacher for 31 years, I taught at every year level and across many different subjects. My career has taken around the world and opened up a variety of career opportunities; as a nanny, an office manager, a web designer and an education consultant.

I believe the most important attributes a commencing student can bring to study are a readiness to explore ideas that may challenge their beliefs, a willingness to work hard and an awareness that the degree is only the small part of the learning.

For me, education is about creating a space where people can shine and achieve things they never imagined possible, and at every age. Good teaching inspires and opens the mind: it challenges and nurtures at the same time and in a way that meets the needs of the individual.

I currently teach across a range of arts education, literacy and ICT focused courses. I recently completed my PhD after six years of part time study. I hope my students will be encouraged to see that there are no limits to what they can do; learning continues!
