I became a teacher so that I could share my passion for the visual arts. From personal and professional experience, I know how the arts can engage, inspire and communicate. I see my role as an educator to promote the unique attributes of the arts and to demonstrate how children learn more effectively through their engagement with this unique area.

Having studied at USQ, I now feel privileged to emulate the role models I had in providing opportunities for students to fulfil their goals and achieve a university qualification. I value the student-centred approach at the heart of USQ which inevitably impacts on the quality of the relationships we have with our students.

My passion for education is in providing opportunities for students to increase their social mobility. Through visual arts, there are numerous possibilities to utilise the power of images to discuss complex concepts and to subsequently enhance understanding.

Visual literacy is an essential skill in a world predominated by images. Being able to utilise this skill enhances students’ understanding and appreciation of the levels of our complex world and its nuances.
