Dr Warren Midgley

I taught English as a Foreign Language at university in Japan for twelve years before relocating to Australia a few years ago. I have learnt four languages other than English and my family is bilingual (English-Japanese). Learning other languages has broadened my perspective on life and the world we live in, and has also given me great employment opportunities. I’d love others to experience this also.

I love teaching, because it involves helping others to discover more about themselves and what they can accomplish. Teaching and learning languages helps us to broaden our horizons and discover new customs, cultures and ways of thinking.

I encourage students to express their thoughts and ideas without feeling judged or condemned. I believe that the best way to learn is through open discussion.

To be an effective educator requires more than just content knowledge. Educators need to be patient, flexible, well-organised and genuinely concerned for their students. The best advice I received in regards to education is that students don’t care what you know until they know that you care.
