PCAP Enrichment camp

Priority Country Area Program (PCAP) Enrichment Camp

In 2008 the  PCAP Enrichment Camp - now in its 27th year - gave 60 Year 8 and 9 students from 16 rural and remote schools an opportunity to experience life as university students.

From 14 to 18 July, the students stayed in USQ residential colleges and took part in a series of social, cultural and educational activities designed to broaden their horizons. They were treated to a week of fun learning activities such as the 'Googie Tower of Terror', 'Robot Dancing', 'Reach for the Stars' and a whodunnit (forensic mystery from a Queensland Police Scenes of Crime Officer).

While on campus, the students visited the Empire Theatre, the Darling Downs Zoo, went late-night shopping and had dinner at a 1950s-inspired restaurant. They even tried some boogie dancing!

Faculty of Education senior and middle schooling students facilitated sessions, in conjunction with the project leaders, Dr Karen Spence and Janice Jones.

The 2009 PCAP camp is scheduled to be held from 13-17 July 2009. Any schools interested in taking part are welcome to contact our Community and Education Links Project Officer, Joy Pinkerton.
