Rural opportunities

The USQ Faculty of Education is committed to supporting and furthering quality education in rural and remote communities across Australia.

To equip you with the experience and special skills needed to work within these communities, the faculty actively seeks and implements initiatives and projects that further this commitment.

Beyond the Range - professional experience grants

Beyond the Range, professional experience grants support high achieving preservice educators to undertake a professional experience placement in a rural and remote Queensland state school.

This initiative of the Department of Education and Training and Employment (DETE) enables preservice educators to broaden their skills, professional teaching experience and employment opportunities in rural and remote Queensland.

As a successful applicant you will receive:

  • up to $1500 for travel, accommodation and living expenses
  • additional support to help you prepare for a professional experience placement in a rural remote setting.

Grants are available for placements in:

Isolated Children's Project (ICP)

Isolated Children's Project is a three week non-evaluated professional experience opportunity for USQ Preservice educators, which takes place in February each year.

Applications for 2013 placements will become available throughout 2012.

Identified Indigenous Schools

In collaboration with the Senior Recruitment Officers for identified Indigenous schools, the Professional Experience team secures placements in indigenous communities in the Torres Strait and North Queensland.

These opportunities require a strong commitment to seeking employment in Indigenous communities as this placement process involves expensive airfares and the arrangement of accommodation.

If you are interested in undertaking a placement in these unique communities, please contact the Professional Experience Office to discuss this opportunity.
