Rural Opportunities

Preservice Educators are encouraged to undertake Rural and Remote Opportunities for Professional Experience placements during their program.

This type of placement can not only provide a great learning experience for Preservice Educators but can be highly regarded when applying for employment.

Accommodation and financial assistance is often available for students involved in both rural and remote placements. For more information regarding these placements please visit www.rural.edu.au.

At USQ, Professional Experience is a component of a course of study. Undergraduates must complete 80 days of supervised profesisonal experience in order to graduate and register as a teacher in Queensland. Postgraduate students, such as those studying the Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching, must complete 55 days of supervised professional experience in order to graduate and register as a teacher in Queensland. In addition, there is a requirement for 20 days Internship or unsupervised Professional Experience in order to complete the required total of 100 (undergraduates) or 75 (postgraduates) days.

USQ students are referred to as 'Preservice Educators' while they are on professional experience. As visitors to an educational setting and as learning members of the profession, USQ Students are expected to demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their approach to Professional Experience. All Preservice Educators are expected to dress and conduct themselves in a manner that will enhance the reputation of USQ and the teaching profession.
