Professional experience (PE)

 Professional experience
Anyone wanting teacher registration must complete a professional experience component as part of their program in order to satisfy the Queensland College of Teachers requirements for registration.

Blue Card (Working with children suitability card)

For all preservice teachers (that is, USQ students) working with children/students under the age of 18 in Queensland, it is a requirement to obtain a Blue Card.

Reports

All students are responsible for ensuring their reports (including electronic submissions) have been provided to the Professional Experience Office. It is your responsibility to follow up any outstanding reports. Please be aware that results can not be finalised and you can not proceed to any further Professional Experience Placement until all documentation from previous professional experience is completed.

SONIA

SONIA is a web-based program that manages the placement process for students, liaison and faculty staff. On the SONIA site, students can nominate preferred schools or centres from a list of offerings for a specific course and check for confirmed placements and site details.

Calendar

2010 Professional Experience Calendar

This is a combined calendar for all specialisations. You can identify your prac block from the course code. Please take note of the dates for your courses and ensure you leave these periods clear for scheduled professional experience. All students are required to complete the experience for which they are enrolled at the scheduled time. Generally no variations to dates will be approved.

Liaison

Our liaison officers act as the contact point between preservice educators, their mentors, coordinators, the course examiner and the Faculty's professional experience coordinator.

Mentors and coordinators

Schools, centres and college coordinators provide educational and administrative support. Mentors are supervising teachers who work  to enhance and develop professional understanding and competence in the preservice educator. More information for mentors and coordinators is available, including forms.

Please refer to DETA information for Supervising and Mentor Teachers for reporting and referee statements.

Course examiners

Course examiners play an important role in making connections between professional experiences and theoretical components. More information is available about the role of course examiners in relation to professional experience.

Scholarship and funding support

Opportunities for Professional Experience in variable contexts with sponsorship or funding support are available.
