International opportunities
International professional experience opportunities
The majority of supervised Professional Experience must occur in Australian primary and/or secondary school settings in order to satisfy The Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) requirements for registration. An International School is not recognised as an Australian school by the QCT.
USQ has a partnership with some independent schools overseas. All schools have English as one of their languages of instruction. These opportunities are arranged through the professional experience office and are annual events. Students who have successfully completed 2 professional experience placements are eligible to apply. These experiences normally occur during November/December each year. The international placement replaces one of the local professional experience placements.
Bangkok, Thailand
Each year up to 15 USQ students who are completing Professional Experience may participate in an exchange program in Bangkok, Thailand. Students complete a professional experience or internship placement as a component of their program with Sarasas Ektra School. Successful applicants are responsible for all associated costs.
Montana USA
Each year up to 5 USQ students completing Professional Experience may participate in an exchange program with Montana State University (MSU). Students complete a minimum 4 weeks professional experience or internship placement as a component of their program in a school in Montana, USA with support from Montana State University. Successful applicants are responsible for all associated costs.
International Professional Experience Applications (PDF 93 KB) close in July 2012. For more information contact Dr Warren Midgley.
Apart from the above, placements may be made in other countries if students have school contacts and are able to arrange an affiliate school and accommodation themselves.
Applications for any school placement overseas will be considered on its merit and suitability to fulfil relevant course requirements. Any proposals should be discussed with the Program Coordinator prior to submission of an application. The number of placements that can be taken overseas is limited.
