Leadership Research

Leadership Research International (LRI) is a research and development group, whose aim is to achieve excellence in research, scholarship, innovation and consultancy by working with educational organisations to enhance the capacity for sustainable improvement.

Four points of focus direct their activities:

  • leadership suited to 21st century contexts
  • engagement in organisation-wide transforming processes
  • ongoing inquiry into pedagogies and teachers’ professional practice
  • reimaging the teaching profession.

Since 1997, LRI has significantly expanded its development arm, creating a whole school improvement initiative Innovative Designs for Enhancing Achievements in Schools (IDEAS), which now operates in State school systems in Victoria, and Western Australia, in Catholic school systems in Canberra, Toowoomba, Perth and Sydney and Adelaide, and in Independent Schools in Adelaide. The IDEAS program also operates in a small number of schools in Singapore and Sicily.

LRI convenes National IDEAS Learning Forums every two years. This initiative enables school communities to progress nationally significant issues associated with pedagogical excellence. Because of this work, the LRI has developed strong alliances with a number of education systems and professional associations.
