Postgraduate students

We encourage and support postgraduate research activities. A high level of support is provided to research and higher degree students from supervisors via modern technologies of E-Learning and face-to-face communication and benefit from cross campus experience at Toowoomba, Springfield (Brisbane) and Fraser Coast campuses.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for postgraduate research students.

A wide range of academic areas are available in which supervision can be offered.  The Research Experts website is the complete directory of USQ researchers.  For some research, ethical clearance is required. Students should consult their supervisor concerning these requirements.

Postgraduate Student Support Scheme

We offer limited financial support to students enrolled in research degrees: Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Education, Master of Philosophy and Master of Applied Linguistics (Honours).

The activity for which financial support is requested must be directly related to the research project being undertaken by the student to complete his or her postgraduate degree, for example:

  • conference presentations;
  • attendance at relevant conferences;
  • expenses incurred in data gathering;
  • consulting supervisor;
  • conducting a pilot study; and/or
  • printing and binding of dissertations.

Supervisors should be consulted for advice and applications submitted using the postgraduate support application form (PDF 77Kb), which should be lodged with the Associate Dean (Research).

Research support provides useful information to assist students throughout their studies.

Check our research news for the latest on upcoming student dissertation proposals.

Ethics clearance

It is important to consider all the ethical implications of any research being conducted. All ethics applications for research involving indigenous studies must be submitted to the Office of Research and Higher Degrees.

Masters and undergraduate students

If you are undertaking a Master of Education or undergraduate degrees, you must submit your application for ethics clearance (DOC 38 KB) (via the supervisor) to the Faculty's Human Research Ethics Advisory Committee.  Electronic submissions are preferred.  At the completion of their research, Masters and undergraduate students are required to submit an Ethics Application: Student's Final Report (DOC 140KB) to the Secretary of the Ethics Reference Group.

Doctoral and Master of Philosophy students

Supervisors of doctoral and MPhil students should be consulted to ensure the necessary ethics clearance is obtained through the Office of Research and Higher Degrees (ORHD) for any research involving animals or humans. Please refer to the Office of Research and Higher Degrees and read its Guidelines for Preparing the Ethics Application when completing the application for ethics clearance (DOC 38KB).
