How to write essays
Information is available on essay preparation, referencing and bibliographies.
Plagiarism
The unauthorised use of other people's words for your own purposes is not permitted in assignments. There are a number of strategies and methods that can be used to help avoid plagiarism.
Student workload
The workload requirements within each course specification indicate how you should utilise your time (for example, directed study, attending lectures, and completing assessments).
For advice on managing your workload, see The Learning Centre.
Electronic assignment submissions - EASE
EASE (Electronic Assignment Submission Environment) enables you to submit your assignments electronically, via your own USQStudyDesk.
Submitting hard-copy assignments
-
Assignments for on-campus courses no larger than lever-arch folders are to be submitted no later that 5:00pm on the due date through the slots in the Assignments Office on the ground floor of G Block (Toowoomba campus).
-
Assignments larger than lever-arch folders or anything that will not fit safely through the assignments slot, will not be accepted at the Assignments Office. Course examiners will be responsible for collection and storage of all large or fragile items of assessment.
-
If you are enrolled in on-campus courses, you must submit your assignments with a signed, completed personal assignment cover sheet, from your USQStudyDesk.
-
When an assignment consists of several items (for example, a CD and an essay) all items must be individually labelled and kept together securely when placed in the assignment submission slot.
-
You must keep a copy of your assignments.
-
Assignments received at the Assignments Office will be recorded on an appropriate system.
Request for an assignment extension
If you require an extension on an assignment, please contact your course examiner.
Return of assignments
-
Marked assignments should normally be returned to students within three weeks of the due date. Assignments marked prior to the end of semester will be distributed in class or from lecturers' offices at set times.
-
Assignments not collected three months after the last day of the exam period for each semester will be destroyed.
