Undergraduate - Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
Postgraduate
Our postgraduate programs are currently being reviewed and reaccredited for 2009 in order to offer more flexibility and opportunities for our current and future global educators. We anticipate being able to offer a Master of Educational Research in 2009.
Certificate in TESOL - short course
The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a practical four-week program offered on-campus in Toowoomba, generally in January. It is aimed at enabling teachers to develop their professional English language teaching skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and culture.
The course provides teaching demonstrations and teaching practice so that participants gain experience in lesson development, assessment, classroom management skills and resource development. Students receive continual feedback and encouragement throughout the course. Program Overview
Graduates of the Cert TESOL are eligible for one credit point in the Master of Applied Linguistics or Master of Education (TESOL) programs. For more information, contact Ann Dashwood.
About Applied Linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
The opportunity to explore and critically evaluate widely accepted practices and emerging trends is an essential feature of the continuing development of contemporary educators.
Our postgraduate linguistics programs assist in developing an understanding and awareness of scholarly literature and research in the area of applied linguistics and second language learning and teaching.
The Master of Applied Linguistics (MAPL) program offers a professionally-recognised award for those without an education background who wish to move into the area of teaching second languages, or apply linguistics in other related areas.
A specialisation of TESOL within the Postgraduate Certificate in Education allows for in-depth study in the area of second language learning and teaching. It also assists in developing open, critical, reflective thinking about second language teaching practice.
Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) graduates will gain credit for LIN5003 (Syllabus Design and Materials Writing) and LIN8001 (Principles of Second Language Learning) in the following programs: Postgraduate in Applied Linguistics (PGAL), MAPL and MEd (TESOL).
Career opportunities
Our Postgraduate programs are designed to keep pace with the rapidly changing education environment and the educator's expanding role by offering maximum choice and flexibility. This flexibility encourages you to focus on specific areas based on your personal and professional needs, industry requirements and future aspirations, which will enhance career prospects.
Accreditation
Postgraduate certificates and Masters programs do not in themselves qualify graduates for teacher registration.
