About Postgraduate Study in Education

The Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching and Learning is for those who wish to teach in a higher education environment.

Postgraduate Certificates provide a 'taste' of postgraduate study and can form half of the Masters programs we offer.  Choose courses to suit your own interests.

The Master of Applied Linguistics offers a choice of a community strand or a teaching strand.

The Master of Education offers a choice of three pathways, according to your career aspirations, lifestyle and interests:

  1. choose any seven courses from a wide variety of fields, plus one core course
  2. focus in a specialised area.  In the Master of Education you may specialise in Guidance & Counselling, TESOL, Special Education or Leading and Managing Organisations
  3. a research pathway (four coursework courses plus four research courses/project) - this pathway provides good preparation for doctoral studies.

The Master of Learning and Development is designed for those whose careers are in transition, possibly brought about by workplace changes, and is ideally suited for those who do not require teacher registration. There are three pathway choices, as per the Master of Education above.

Specialisations within the Master of Learning and Development include adult, professional and workplace learning, career development and lifelong learning, early childhood, educational leadership, online and distribute learning, and more.
Up to 50% of courses may be chosen from any faculty, including the Faculty of Education, and may include undergraduate foundation courses.

Career opportunities

Our postgraduate programs are designed to keep pace with the rapidly changing education environment and the educator's expanding role by offering maximum choice and flexibility. This flexibility encourages students to focus on specific areas based on their personal and professional needs, industry requirements and future aspirations, which will enhance career development and inspire lifelong learning. The opportunity to explore and critically evaluate widely accepted practices and emerging trends is an essential feature of the continuing development of contemporary educators.

Accreditation

The Early Childhood specialisation within the Master of Learning and Development has been accredited with the Office for Early Childhood Educaiton and Care (formerly the Department of Communities).

The Career Development specialisation within the Master of Learning and Development has been endorsed by the Careers Industry Council of Australia (CICA).

NOTE: Postgraduate certificates and Masters programs do not in themselves qualify graduates for teacher registration.

Research

Students will be supported by staff who are recognised nationally and internationally in their research endeavours. All our masters programs offer introductory research opportunities that may lead to Doctoral studies.
