About Technical and Vocational Education & Training
If you are seeking to obtain or upgrade your skills and qualifications as an educator, trainer or learning and development professional, we have a program to suit your needs. We offer a range of tertiary qualifications in the following areas:
-
technical, vocational and further education and training
-
career planning and development
-
adult, professional and workplace learning.
If you enrol in the Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training program you may - at any time throughout your enrolment - transfer into the Bachelor of Education program in order to become eligible for teacher registration.
Within the Bachelor of Education program you are able to complete studies in a range of secondary subject areas including industrial Design and Technology (Manual Arts) and Vocational Education. A wide range of discipline studies (PDF740KB) are offered to help you develop specialised teaching areas.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training or the Bachelor of Education (Technical and Vocational Education) who choose to extend EDV3500 Competency Based Training and Assessment to meet the requirements for the TAA40104 - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will have met the industry standard for training delivery in Australia's VET system.
Professional accreditation
The Bachelor of Education (Technical and Vocational Education) and Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching programs meet the requirements for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers, and similar bodies in other states of Australia.
Please note: The Queensland College of Teachers is required to conduct national criminal history checks on all new applicants for teacher registration in Queensland. A 'Working with Children' check will also be carried out prior to commencement of any professional experience.
The Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training degree, postgraduate certificates and Masters programs do not, in themselves, qualify you for teacher registration.
Career opportunities
As a graduate of the three-year Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training, you will be able to operate as an effective educator and trainer within a range of education and training settings outside the school sector, such as Technical and Further Education (TAFE), technical colleges, industry and community education settings.
Completion of the Technical and Vocational Education specialisation in the four-year Bachelor of Education will enable you to teach students in:
- the senior phase of learning in schools
- TAFE
- Technical colleges
- industry training
- community settings.
By completing the Industrial Design and Technology specialisation, you will be able to apply for positions as Manual Arts/Industrial Design and Technology teachers in secondary schools.
The Certificate IV in training and assessment qualifies you to teach accredited Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects in school (subject to teacher registration) and at TAFE.
