An education is an asset that can never be taken away, it will always be something you can build on (pardon the engineering pun!) Education is more than just book learning, it encompasses learning about yourself, your fellow humans and the world we share.

I love seeing a student’s eyes light up when they suddenly 'get' a concept I have been explaining. That is pretty hard to see with external students but every now and then I get an excited email or a post telling me about a revelation someone has just had and it feels just as good. We are training the next generation of Australian engineers, I want them to continue to be counted amongst the best in the world, and USQ makes a quality engineering education accessible to students who would otherwise not have the opportunity. It feels good to be a part of that.

Before USQ I had 13 years working for Shell Australia. As a young graduate engineer I was passionate about improving the world in which we live. Like it or not fossil fuels drive our world and the opportunity to work with one of the biggest suppliers who were also acknowledged as a leader in safety and environmental innovation was too good to resist. I joined Shell as a graduate engineer and left as a senior project manager. I found myself working with talented people from very diverse disciplines.
