About the Faculty

The Faculty of Engineering and Surveying is a foundation faculty of the University. We are a leading provider of engineering and surveying programs in Australia and overseas. The Faculty’s teaching is supported by a solid foundation of research and scholarship with an annual research revenue of more than $4 million.

Approximately 2,500 students are currently studying our programs with approximately 24 per cent attending classes on-campus and the remainder studying off-campus by distance education. A new Engineering and Surveying building was opened in 1997. Further expenditure of over $2 million enables us to provide students with teaching and laboratory equipment that reflects the latest technological advances in industry.

The Faculty offers a wide range of professionally accredited programs both undergraduate and postgraduate across a range of disciplines:

  • Agricultural, Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Power Engineering
  • Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering
  • Surveying and Spatial Science

Faculty research

The Faculty has a number of research centres and groups. Staff research interests also vary and cover a number of disciplines.

Faculty structure

The Faculty's management structure is outlined in the staff directory.

In 2005 the Faculty presented its direction to the community through the release of its Strategic Plan (PDF* 187 kb) document.

Facilities

The Faculty is housed in a multi-storey building with three adjacent laboratory blocks on the main campus of the University.  Four hectares of land in the south east corner of the campus are set aside for studies of engineering in agriculture.

Our Engineering and Surveying building houses state of the art facilities including:

  • advanced finite element and CAD laboratories
  • robotics and mechatronics laboratories
  • materials research and testing facilities
  • transport modelling laboratory
  • hydraulics engineering centre
  • geomechanics and heavy structures laboratories
  • electrical and electronic laboratories
  • surveying and GIS equipment.

Professional accreditation

USQ engineering and surveying programs are recognised by the relevant professional bodies. Engineers Australia and the Spatial Science Institute recognise our programs.
