GIS/GPS Student Experience Day

The GIS/GPS Day is an ideal opportunity for teachers in geography, scicence and mathematics to expose Year 10-12 students to a range of problem solving exercises in the latest technology under the guidance of USQ staff.

Exercises

Students will use the latest technology in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Satelite Navigation Systems (GPS) to participate in exercises which will build fundamental skills in maths, geography and science. Students will be able to choose from the following three activities:

  • GPS/GIS activity - students will use GPS to collect and map data and to navigate
  • GIS activity - a computer based exercise to solve and map contaminated water
  • GPS/Surveying activity - use surveying techniques to measure the heights of buildings and size of structure

Activities are targeted at Year 12 studnets. Each interactive activity will be approximately 40 minutes in length. Students may choose more than one activity.
