Innovation in Curricula Learing & Teaching
Engineering Problem solving Strand
The Engineering Problem Solving Strand team has successfully designed and delivered a suite of four articulated problem-based learning courses which form a core strand across the Faculty's Engineering and Surveying programs. These are one of the world's first suites of problem-based learning (PBL) courses delivered to engineering students studying in a virtual learning environment, they are designed to deliver key technical and generic learning objectives to all students studying both on-campus and via distance education.
Student diversity and prior experience is harnessed to enhance learning opportunities and students become active participants taking responsibility for setting and achieving individual learning goals within a supportive team environment. The courses deliver significant benefits to students, staff and faculty including providing a common delivery platform for both on-campus and distance students, increased student retention and progression, staff development in learning and teaching and scholarship and research opportunities in engineering education.
The team has won several USQ learning and teaching awards, the Engineers Australia award for Excellence in Engineering Education, and a 2006 Carrick Institute Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
