Class timetables

The class timetable shows all lectures, tutorials and practical classes. The timetable is published a few weeks before the beginning of semester.

Lectures

All lectures for a course must be attended. Lectures usually run for two hours per week unless otherwise shown.

Tutorials and practicals

Tutorials are small group discussions with the examiner or nominated tutor. Practical classes involve hands-on activities such as experiments and use of specialist equipment. Tutorials/practical classes normally occur once a week.

Where duplicate tutorials and practical classes are timetabled, this is to:

  • give students a choice
  • to specify which one they need to go to according to their group (program/major/level).

All groups are shown on the timetable and students need to search for all occurrences of their 'group' when faced with multiple tutes/pracs, in order to determine which ones you should attend.

Please note that you will be advised at your first lecture precisely which sessions you need to attend.

Group timetables

If you enrol as per the recommended pattern shown in your program entry in the USQ Handbook, you will be in a specific group. Each group is able to access its own group timetable which lists all lectures, tutorials and practical classes that must be attended each week.

Groups are identified by program/major/level:

  • first four alpha characters indicate the program code. For example, the program Bachelor of Engineering is identified by BENG
  • the characters in brackets indicate the major. For example, a major in Civil Engineering is identified by (Civ)
  • 'L' and the numeral 1, 2, 3 or 4 indicate the year level. For example, first year students would be identified by L1.

Therefore, a first year student who is studying a Bachelor of Engineering with a major in Civil Engineering would be in group BENG (Civ) L1.

Examination timetable

The examination timetable is available approximately six weeks prior to the start of each exam period.

Residential school timetable

The residential school timetable is available approximately 2-3 months prior to the commencement of the residential school.

Arising Timetabling Problems

The timetable will be explained in detail at Orientation. For this reason alone, Orientation should not be missed. When clashes occur, students may opt to drop their enrolment in the on-campus mode and enrol to study by external (distance education) mode in the same semester. Alternatively, students should choose a different course to avoid the clash.
