Supplementary Assessment
This Faculty of Engineering and Surveying Policy Statement is to be read in conjunction with Section 3.8 of the Assessment Policy.
Supplementary assessment may be considered for students who have made a reasonable attempt at all of the required assessments in a course and achieved 45 percent or more of the total marks available for the course, but who have failed to meet the requirements for a passing grade.
Students graded IM (Incomplete Make-up) will be required to complete the supplementary assessment within a prescribed period, normally seven weeks after the publication of the results for the course. Students will be given written notification of the nature of the work to be performed and the final date for the submission of the make-up work.
An extension to a deadline for the submission of a supplementary assignment will not normally be allowed.
Students offered a supplementary examination would normally be required to sit for the examination during the examination period of the teaching period when the course is next offered. Students will be advised if this is not the case.
Students identified as being otherwise eligible to graduate may be able to sit the supplementary examination in the next official examination period where it can be scheduled. They should request an early examination by writing to the Administration Officer (Assessment) within seven (7) days of the release of end of semester results. To be eligible for a special supplementary exam it must be the student's very last course to graduate.
Students who have been awarded a supplementary examination are responsible for obtaining information on the format, type and length of time for the examination.
Under no circumstances will the date for a supplementary examination be changed or the examination deferred.
Students who do not sit a supplementary examination, for any reason will be given a Fail grade for the course.
Supplementary assessments are awarded as a privilege and not as a right.
