Greener purchasing

The University is currently reviewing its procurement policy and procedures to include statements on USQ's commitment to environmental best practice and ecological sustainability in the acquisition of all goods and services.

USQ will regularly monitor, and review wherever practical, its acquisition of materials and energy, and its disposal of waste. Preference will be given to items produced in ways which cause least harm to the environment and will generate the least waste materials.

What can I do?

Even when buying personal items there are some simple tips to help you make smarter purchases:

  • look for goods with recyclable packaging
  • where possible, avoid 'single-use' items; look for an alternative that can be used more than once or buy a larger size that will last longer
  • support locally produced items with a lower carbon footprint from reduced transportation
