We are very pleased to welcome many new students into the Faculty of Education and also extremely pleased to be graduating many students in the upcoming April graduation ceremonies.  It is a pleasure to witness students’ transformation into professional and skilled contemporary educators.  We are very proud of all our Faculty alumni and are looking forward to joining with friends and family to celebrate their wonderful achievements.

For 2013, the Faculty is gearing up for another busy year, with an exciting and renewed focus on engaging with many education sites, including schools early childhood centres and TAFE’s, and current educators.  We hope to see many of you, our valued alumni, at these engagement activities throughout the year.  We will be communicating with you about these various opportunities via email in the coming weeks and months.

Education Tracy

Making a difference one child at a time

Recently, the Communications Coordinator for the Alumni & Advancement Office caught up with Tracy Cronin, Head of Curriculum at Mount Ommaney Special School. Tracy’s story is inspirational. She began as a Teacher’s Aide and was driven by the passion and foresight of the teachers that she worked with. She could see the positive impact she was making on the lives of students with special needs and wanted to to add value to their lives.

Education story 2

Experiencing outback education

When a simple grocery run meant a seven hour return drive, Elizabeth Chapman knew she wasn’t in Toowoomba anymore.  The University of Southern Queensland Primary Education student flew out to the quiet town of Chillagoe, four hours out of Cairns, to take part in USQ’s Isolated Children’s Project. For more information about rural opportunities at USQ, visit the education website and consider the difference you can make.

Education research in good hands

A recent Faculty of Education Research Showcase has celebrated the diversity and mix of projects that USQ staff are currently undertaking. The Faculty has hosted its second annual Research Showcase, launching eight new research books and the 2012 Faculty of Education Research Achievements booklet.

One of these students has a special story to share.
