Essay writing is an important part of assessment at university, and its purpose is to structure your ideas in such a way that it becomes easily accessible and understandable to your readers (or in your case your marker). Essay structure is therefore very important, because if you do it right, you will ‘guide’ your reader through your ideas in a logical way. There are different ways of structuring an essay, but the basic way of doing it is by providing an introduction, a series of paragraphs (the body of your essay) and a conclusion. Writing a good introductionThe four basic functions that a good introduction performs are:
