Research degrees

Postgraduate students are invited to join the Faculty of Business as higher degree research candidates.

Doctor of Philosophy (DPHD)

The USQ Handbook sets out the requirements for entry to the Doctor of Philosophy. Normally, all students will be enrolled as provisional candidates, with their status being reviewed within 12 months for full-time candidates or 18 months for part-time candidates. Because this program is research-focused, it is essential that prospective candidates clarify their topic for research and seek an academic staff member to provide supervision. Prospective candidates are advised to allow several months for discussion with potential supervisors and for consideration of the application prior to the commencement of candidature.

Doctor of Business Administration (Research) (DBAR)

The Doctor of Business Administration (Research)  aims to develop your knowledge, skills and attitudes as a senior manager, building on your previous Masters of Business Administration degree studies.

Master of Business Research (MBSR)

The Master of Business Research is a research degree that aims to train students in business research either for academic or management purposes. The task of the Master of Business Research student is to undertake a significant piece of research and report it in a scholarly dissertation. The Master of Business Research aims to provide students with opportunities to explore the resolution of particular management problems using specialist knowledge and advanced techniques through conducting research in a specialised area of business, management or information systems.

The program will enable a graduate to:

• comprehend and evaluate developments in a chosen area of business and critically examine the relationship between such changes and contemporary theory
• identify, critically assess and apply selected research paradigms in terms of their theoretical status and their applicability for resolving contemporary business problems
• undertake, interpret and evaluate management research using acceptable principles and techniques
• develop and support a proactive approach to management decision making.

 A brief outline of the proposed research topic (approximately one page) should be included with the application.
