SIFE

SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) is a global student organisation spanning 1700 university campuses in 42 countries. It encourages students to form networks with community, business and educational organisations through the development of projects which passes on students’ knowledge of free enterprise to others.

SIFE Competition

SIFE teams are given the opportunity to showcase their projects at competitions where they present oral, audio-visual and written summaries to judges comprised of business leaders who determine which teams did the best job teaching and equipping others with the tools necessary for success.

Teams from various Australian universities attend the National competition and present their projects under strict guidelines and judging criteria, in an effort to win the National Championship. The winner of the National competition then goes on to represent Australia at the SIFE World Cup.

The Fraser Coast SIFE team was named 2002 National Champions and the team members attended the SIFE World Cup in Amsterdam. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and it afforded some of the students the opportunity to go on and travel around Europe.

Following on from success as prize winners in 2003, the 2004 Fraser Coast Team were also presented with a number of awards at the 2004 National Championship in Melbourne.

Why be Involved?

Student members of SIFE have an edge when embarking on their careers as they can gain project planning and management skills, communication and presentation skills, experience in working in a team and time management skills.

More and more businesses, both locally and nationally, are recognising that students who become involved in SIFE are the students who will become valuable employees. Many things that students do as part of their every day life can lead to SIFE projects.

Funny Business Competition

 HB High - Funny Business
Hervey Bay High School students participating in workshops as part of the Funny Business Program 2004.

The Fraser Coast SIFE team based at Hervey Bay, supports an inter-school competition for Year 10 students from schools in the region. The school students attend workshops on business planning, marketing and team work at USQ and then throughout the semester develop and run their own businesses.

At the end of the semester the students present their business to a panel of representatives from the academic and business community. McDonalds sponsor a shield and prize money is awarded.

Fraser Coast SIFE has been the recipient of many financial awards and grants for this initiative.
