Student Hub

The Fraser Coast Student Hub is made up of a range of support options which will help you to become an independent self-managed learner and assist you to achieve your academic goals.

Following is a list of support options provided, and additional on-line services which are available to all USQ students.

Academic and Learning Support

To successfully learn at University you will need to

  • be aware that tertiary learning differs from your past experiences
  • learn a new academic 'language'
  • enhance your research and writing skills, numeracy skills and analytical skills
  • be able to meet referencing requirements relating to your area of study
  • discover new mechanisms to help you to cope with your busy life.

If you find this a little daunting, a number of workshops are held throughout each semester to provide you with assistance in the above areas and many other specific requirements relating to your studies.  These workshops are presented by staff and will provide you with invaluable information which will allow you to complete your assignments, weekly commitments and exams successfully.

Additional support from qualified staff and peer tutors is available through the Academic and Learning Support Centre which is located in rooms A130 and A132.

Buallum Jarl-Bah

At USQ Fraser Coast campus, Buallum Jarl-Bah is the centre of Indigenous Higher Education and Research. It is a place where Indigenous peoples gather and learn and a place where non-Indigenous peoples come to understand the inclusive notion of holistic learning for all people.

We have a strong commitment to assisting and supporting Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Island students to achieve success throughout their tertiary studies.

Information & Communication Technology Support Services

The USQ Fraser Coast campus has four computer laboratories which provide students with 24 hour access through the use of their student card. It is very important that students attend workshops during Orientation week which is held the week prior to semesters one and two to establish email accounts, access the Internet and study desk and learn about USQ Internet services.

International Students

International students can face even greater challenges than Australian students. Adjusting to life in another country at the same time as adjusting to life as a university student can be extremely daunting. Overcoming language, cultural and social barriers presents unique challenges.

Support and assistance with all areas inside and outside of university life is available. Whether you need to know where the local doctors are, how to find out about the law in Australia, assistance with English language, accommodation assistance or help with any other problem.

Library Services

The library at USQ Fraser Coast is unique in that it provides joint facility usage with the Hervey Bay City Council Library. Members of the library staff are very helpful and conduct workshops to assist students to find information on-line and become familiar with library’s resources.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships are available to assist you to enter the University and also to support you in your on going studies. At USQ Fraser Coast campus we have a very supportive business community who provide awards for high achievements in a number of courses.

Student Guild

The Student Guild is responsible for the provision of a wide range of cultural, social and welfare services to all USQ students. It is non-political and non-religious in its objectives and services. The Student Guild complements the academic program of the University, and acts to assist students with academic and personal matters as well as their social, cultural and sporting needs through its elected Board of Directors and its full-time and part-time professional staff.

At USQ Fraser Coast campus we have a personal counsellor and a careers counsellor who provide assistance to students and family members in many ways including:

Having difficulty with your studies?

If you are having difficulty coping with your study work load and personal commitments, you need to make informed decisions about your options. By talking to your lecturers, counsellors, and administrative staff, we can help you to make the decision that is right for you at that point in time.

Tertiary Preparation Support

tertiary preparation program is available to provide the opportunity for people to enhance their chances of gaining a tertiary place and to prepare for successful tertiary study. There are no formal educational requirements to complete the program.

Students studying tertiary preparation in the Wide Bay region are welcome to take advantage of workshops and support offered by our experienced lecturers at the USQ Fraser Coast campus.

Textbooks and Resources

Textbooks and resources are available from the bookshop on-campus at Fraser Coast. Textbooks may also be available second hand via the notice board in Block A or online via the USQ Bookshop

USQ Terminology

While reading about your study options at Fraser Coast, you may come across some terms which are unfamiliar to you. Therefore to assist you, a list of commonly used terms at USQ has been compiled.
