Buallum Jarl-Bah

The primary purpose of Buallum Jarl-Bah is:

  • to assist and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students throughout their tertiary studies
  • teaching Australian Indigenous Studies
  • advocacy, research, consultation and promotion of Australian Indigenous culture.

Admissions

There are essentially two avenues through which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students can gain access to tertiary studies, namely through QTAC or direct application to USQ through Buallum Jarl-Bah. Study may be on a full-time, part-time or external basis.

IHEP Program

For Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students who wish to study at USQ, but do not have the required prerequisites to undertake tertiary studies, Buallum Jarl-Bah provides support for the Indigenous Higher Education Pathways Program offered via distance education.

Indigenous students may study one or more of the courses in order to develop computing, communications, maths or cultural knowledge for employment purposes.

To complete the requirements of the program, four core courses must be successfully completed within three semesters.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Admissions

Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS)

The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) is an academic support program provided by the Department for Education Science and Training (DEST) to provide tutorial and other education support for Indigenous students with an identified need for additional assistance. A  room is available for study and tutoring.

There is no cost to the student for this service, as payment to tutors is administered by DEST.

Scholarships

Financial support in the form of scholarships and bursaries including the Olga Miller Bursary are available for Indigenous students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study.
