David Martin
I began my education career as a primary and then secondary maths teacher. Through my passion for teaching, team work, and initiative, I promptly earned the right to such leadership positions as Heads of Mathematics Department, Dean of Students, and Deputy Principal. Alongside my service in the state school system, I commenced a casual lecturing career in 1998 for Florida Atlantic University’s Faculty of Education in the U.S.A and since 2009 am proud to be employed at USQ. I chose to work at The University of Southern Queensland because their creed, like mine, believes strongly in providing high values and a quality education to its students.
In this position, I deliver contemporary curriculum core courses such as the Faculty of Education’s mathematics education courses and the elective course, Teaching the National Curriculum: Mathematics. As mentioned, I was employed in the state school system where I served as a deputy principal. In that role I was responsive to the notion that as a deputy principal I was able to help copious amounts of children indirectly through the teachers I worked with directly. However, my passion and true calling I found was, and is, at USQ preparing pre-service educators to become effective classroom teachers in their own rights; thus, positively affecting thousands of primary and secondary students.
My achievements as a lecturer has become evident based on the high accolades I have received in my evaluations from the students I have taught over the decades. As any teacher who is in the profession for the sake of children would say, “The accolades from my students are my biggest reward”.
