Secondary

The secondary specialisation prepares you to work in schools encompassing Years 8 to 12. A wide range of discipline studies and electives are available within the Bachelor of Education, where you will develop two strong teaching areas.

You will gain the in-depth knowledge and understanding of contemporary education and will successfully engage with students from Year 8 to Year 12. Our undergraduate programs develop in you the expertise needed to apply the key areas of curriculum and assessment to your teaching and the ability to effectively engage with this group of learners.

When beginning your journey as a preservice educator, choosing your area of specialisation is a complex decision. If you are unsure about which specialisation is right for you, shared first year courses give you the flexibility to change your specialisation after your first year.

If you have a passion for the wellbeing and benefit that movement and physical education offer, you can study a major in Health and Physical Education or undertake the secondary focus in the Sport, Health and Physical Education specialisation of the Bachelor of Education.

If you already have a technical trade and wish to focus on the area of Industrial Technology and Design (Manual Arts) or wish to engage in Vocational Education and Training (VET) within the school sector, you should consider the Technical and Vocational specialisation within the Bachelor of Education.

If you already have a degree in a field other than Education, you should consider our Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching, Secondary specialisation.

If you are an international or off-shore Australian student, not intending to seek teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers, you should consider our Graduate Diploma of Teaching.
