Language and Culture
Language and Culture offers tuition in either German or Mandarin Chinese, and emphasises the experience of language learning as a gateway to the broader study of the history, culture, traditions, customs and national identities. You may also choose to study Indonesian, as a separate major either as your only language option or alongside your study of German or Mandarin Chinese. No prior language skills are required to start in any of our language programs.
During the course of your study, you will gain competency in both language and cultural knowledge and will be encouraged to acquire a cross-cultural awareness preparing you for the possibility of life or study abroad. You will be equipped for conversation, reading and writing in your chosen language and will develop these skills in the culture’s context through exposure to current literature, newspapers and magazines
Enhance your employment options by combining a language with another arts major such as journalism, history, performing/creative arts or international relations or complement studies in business, law, education, sciences or engineering.
