Returning to study

Whether you are returning to study from another university, a break due to family commitments or feel like a career-change, there is a path available to you at USQ to achieve your successes.

Congratulations on your decision to return to study!

Career guidance

At USQ, we offer a range of services regarding career guidance to future and returning students to help you make the decisions regarding our degrees and courses that are right for you. One of our career counsellors can meet with you at any of our three campuses and have a confidential chat with you about your interests, circumstances and life plans and assist you with goal setting and discuss study options to achieve these.

Previous work or study

We know that your skills and knowledge come not only through study, but also through practice and on the job learning. You may be able to receive credit for former study or previous work experience, which means that you may be able to reduce the number of courses that you would normally need to study to achieve your degree.

Do I have the right skills?

Don’t worry, as part of your degree all of your first year subjects (courses) have exercises and assessment items designed to build your skills and teach you the basics of studying at university level. You'll learn:

  • how to write an essay
  • how to reference properly, and
  • how to participate in tutorials.

You can also choose other courses that will allow you to understand more about Uni culture and help to build your communication skills and confidence. If you need a little bit more help to get accustomed to writing for Uni assignments, The Learning Centre offers a great range of workshops and online resources to help you build your skills.

Need support?

Whether you are a parent, working part time or just struggling to deal with the challenges of studying , at USQ we have established a support network available to help you achieve work-life-study balance. There may be times when you might need help, whether it is to do with your studies or assignments or time management - our Student Relationship Officers are here to assist you from the moment you enrol through to the day you graduate, particularly with:

  • enrolling
  • course enquiries
  • studying
  • pointing you toward the best person to contact; and
  • checking your records or academic results.

Your study materials will also include information on how to contact your lecturer and the support staff from your study area.

Full-time, part-time, online?

Many of our students have families, work full-time or part-time or have other commitments that may make full-time study not feasible. That’s why, at USQ we have flexible study options to accommodate the needs of individuals. No matter your circumstances, if you are passionate about advancing your education and maximising your career potential, USQ will help you to achieve your goals.
