Rebecce: I am Rebecca.
David: And I am David.
And we are USQ Alumni.
Rebecca- Bachelor of primary and
David- middle school.
Rebecca- Yeah.
Interviewer- So you both do that?
Rebecca- Bachelor of Education, primary and middle school.
David- Yeah, both do that.
Interviewer- Cool
Rebecca- so Dave started a year before me and then I started the year after him and because I’ve got my Diploma in childcare I had some credits so, ended up finishing at the same time so.
David- I’ve always just liked the feeling you get when you teach someone um, just to give that to somebody. Um, I just think it’s really cool when they get it and their eyes light up and they just get excited um, that just gives me a buzz..
Children- Give it to me mummy, I’m over here.
David to children - Try again. Ready?
David- Both work at the same school. So I’m um doing five days a week and Bec is doing two days a week. She does Thursday, Friday. Uh and she watches the kids for the other three days.
David- I think um the fact that um, you can do a lot of it online um that gives a lot of flexibility to the degree. Uh I also think that because it’s such a small campus particularly the Springfield one. Um, like I said earlier you can talk to the staff and the staff know who you are. You’re not just a number. Um, you know the teachers, the lecturers that you get know who you are and they can talk to you as a person rather than just a, you know they will know your circumstances when you are asking for any help and that sort of stuff.
Rebecca- They also give a lot of their time so if you ever had any problems or questions they were always there to answer.
Rebecca- It had it’s moments. I had Andrew when I was in my second year so had, he was two and a half months old when I had two week prac and things like that got tiring um but they’re good kids as well so it made it a bit easier. You learnt to work around 15 minute gaps, if that’s all you got than that’s all you did so…
David- How long before your assignment was due before Corrine stood on your USB stick though
Rebecca-(laughs) I had one assignment that was finished and it was on my USB stick and this one decided to stand on it and broke it so I had to pay $100 to get it fixed or retype up the 3000 word assignment, so I payed the $100. Hey. So there is some good and some bad (laughs)
Rebecca to daughter- Why did I say your name? oh cause you were in my belly once and I’m talking about when you’re in my belly, ok.
David- I was the first one in my family to go through uni and get a degree so I’ve got a brother and sister at the same uni doing their degrees at the moment so, and one other sister at a different university doing her degree so um, I think I’m the first one to have made that step so I think they are pretty pound of it and they can see that as something achievable for them as well. Whereas growing up we never would have thought we would be at uni so…
