Choosing what to study
You might know exactly what you want to be and what you want to study. Or maybe, like a lot of people, you’re not sure just yet. Don’t worry, at USQ we are here to help you identify your goals and what your idea of ‘success’ is. Then, we can help you find the path to get you there.
Perhaps you have a career in mind, or perhaps you just want to study something you love. Either way, at USQ we are here to help you reach your study goals.
To get more information about what type of study might suit your personality, your situation and your goals, you can make an appointment with one of our careers counsellors. They can have a session with you in person or over the phone.
Where to start?
If you aren't sure where to start, consider:
- why do you wish to study a particular program? Do you have an interest in it – or is it more about the starting salary? Will that be enough to keep you motivated?
- what you would enjoy studying, rather than what you think you should be studying.
- take the focus off the end result and try to stimulate thought about what you are currently interested in, how you want to challenge yourself and what area of study you find rewarding.
- you do have more than one chance and you can always change courses or direction at a later stage during your studies.
You might feel a bit frustrated or confused when trying to choose which program you would like to study, especially if you are feeling a bit of pressure from other people – but don’t worry, take your time and work at your own pace. Remember you are choosing your university degree – not theirs!
