Census date

The census date is the date which all your enrolment related requirements must be finalised. A higher education provider must, for each unit of study it provides or proposes to provide during a year, determine, for that year a particular date to be the census date for the unit.

Commonwealth Supported Students

The census date is important because it is the deadline for all the following:

  • finalising your enrolment
  • completing and submitting your Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form
  • providing your Tax File Number, if you request a HECS-HELP loan.

If you remain enrolled in a Commonwealth supported unit at the end of the census date you will:

  • be liable to pay your student contribution
  • incur a HECS-HELP debt, if you have requested a loan for your student contribution
  • incur a 'fail' grade if you choose to withdraw after the census date without special circumstances.

Full Fee Paying, Tuition and International Students

The census date is important because it is the deadline for all the following:

  • finalising your enrolment.

If you remain enrolled in a Commonwealth supported unit at the end of the census date you will:

  • be liable to pay your student fees
  • incur a 'fail' grade if you choose to withdraw after the census date without special circumstances
  • may incur administrative charges.

Student Responsibility

Students are responsible for meeting the university's census date deadline. Students must be aware of:

  • the university's census dates
  • any specific arrangements for enrolment required by the university.

You must check that all your enrolment and payment details are correct on or before the census date.

Prior to the Census date

To avoid enrolment restrictions ie denial of web access, term cancellation and other related fees, make sure you finalise the payment of your Student Account and/or finalise the deferral of your student contribution, by the Payment Due Date.
