|I am very pleased to support the Go WEST Initiative – the Best of the WEST Awards for women and girls embarking on or embracing careers in science, engineering and technology in all their broadest applications.
The expansion of the mining and gas industry in the Surat basin alongside the increasing reliance of traditional industries such as agriculture on science based technologies and sophisticated engineering skills ensures tremendous opportunities for qualified managerial and technical staff. Women are especially encouraged to take advantage of this new world of opportunity which is now very open to all those suitably qualified.
The Best of the WEST Awards recognise and honour the achievements of many talented women and girls in fields of study and work traditionally dominated by men. USQ and its Go WEST Leaders are to be congratulated for this celebration of success to assist the career and life prospects of the extraordinarily capable award entrants.
In this its fourth year it is anticipated that nominations will be bigger and better than ever and I encourage all those eligible to “Go West To Be The Best” .
I look forward to this very important event in the USQ calendar.
