Program AimsThe Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) is designed to provide graduates with advanced study in Information Systems and to develop in students a capacity to undertake independent research.
The Honours degree provides opportunities for motivated and highly qualified students to undertake advanced coursework and produce a research dissertation. Students develop the appropriate research skills which will allow them to either undertake research oriented careers or to undertake further studies at the Doctoral levels. Students are allowed flexibility in choice of one coursework course. This may come either from other courses in the discipline area or in the form of an independent study course tailored to the specific needs of the student.

Program StructureThe BIT (Hons) specialising in Information Systems comprises two courses of coursework and six courses of research dissertation. In special circumstances, an independent study course may be available to enable students to undertake specific discipline related study under the supervision of an assigned staff member. Students will be required to submit a proposal before being considered to undertake this course. The dissertation will be a piece of independently conducted research. To successfully complete the dissertation, students will be required to select a topic, carry out supervised research on the chosen topic using an appropriate method and present and defend the results.
