Program structure
Students must complete any four units of undergraduate science and mathematics courses with a minimum of two courses at Level 2 or 3. Courses can be chosen from one, or a combination of, the disciplines shown in the Table below.
| Subject Area | Residential School Requirements for EXT Courses |
| Astronomy (PHY) | External only – no residential school requirement |
| Biology (BIO) | All courses available on-campus, some courses available in both modes – some external courses have compulsory residential schools |
| Chemistry (CHE) | On-campus only |
| Climatology (CLI) | Available in both modes – no residential school requirement |
| Maths (MAT) | Available in both modes – no residential school requirement |
| Physics (PHY) | Available in both modes – some external courses have compulsory residential schools |
Students may select three units of courses as above and a fourth course in science or maths education with the approval of the program coordinator and the Faculty of Education.

Practical experience
Students will obtain practical and/or field work experience as part of individual courses studied.

IT requirements
Computers can play an important role in the studying and learning process, and students are strongly encouraged to make use of up-to-date computer technology to facilitate learning, and in the production of assessment material. Many courses make use of the Internet through online discussion groups and course web pages. When considering the suitability of current computer access and/or the purchase of a new computer, students need to take into account the special requirements of these courses.
Therefore, all students are required to have access to the Internet and to have a computer capable of running the latest versions of Internet web browsers. To achieve this level of capacity, the minimum and recommended standards for Windows and Macintosh systems are outlined at http://www.usq.edu.au/ict/students/standards/default.htm.

Residential schools
Some or all of the courses in some science and maths disciplines are offered externally (see the above table). For details of residential school requirements (if any) for a specific course are contained within the course specifications. However, preliminary information can be obtained by consulting the Bachelor of Science entry in the Handbook. The details of specific course offerings are detailed there. Most courses offered in on-campus mode have laboratory and/or field work attendance requirements; these are detailed in their course specifications.

Recommended Enrolment Pattern
There is no set enrolment pattern for this program. However courses must be taken according to the pre- and co-requisite requirements contained in their course specifications, and a minimum of two level 2 or 3 courses must be completed. Please contact the Program Coordinator to determine specific enrolment pattern.
