Program focus
This program gives students the opportunity to develop the skills
to manage publishing projects. Students develop a firm understanding
of the theoretical, legal, ethical and practical elements of editing
and publishing. Upon completion of this diploma at credit level or
better, graduates are eligible to apply for enrolment in the Master
level of study.

Program aims
The program aims to produce graduates who have developed:

a high degree of understanding of the theoretical, ethical,
legal and practical elements of professional editing and publishing,
and of the management of publishing projects
-
a high level of intellectual and practical skills to apply knowledge
in professional practice.

Program objectives
On successful completion of the program students will:
-
be able to demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of design concepts,
technical skills, legal and ethical constraints, and editorial processes
in the publishing environment
-
be able to apply theoretical understanding and decision-making
processes in the planning, production, editing and coordination of
publication of work to professional standards
-
be able to demonstrate possession of the skills required to
publish to a professional standard
-
demonstrate a knowledge of the principles and issues in editing
and publishing
-
have acquired either:
-
appropriate skills in research methodology,
-
basic web publishing skills
-
contextual theoretical knowledge relevant to modern communication.

Admission requirements
Admission requirements for the Graduate Diploma of Editing and
Publishing are completion of a Bachelor degree in any recognised tertiary
field, or equivalent, at pass level or above, which has been awarded
not more than 10 years previous to the date of admission to the program.
Applicants may be accepted for commencement in semester 2 and should
enrol in PUB5006 and/or
their elective course.
International applicants must have met the University's
English language requirements or have completed the University's
ELICOS/UNIPREP program.

Domestic students
Application for postgraduate programs may be made directly
to USQ. You should ensure you submit your application by the closing
dates.
International students
This program is offered to international students. An international
student is a person who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen
and not an Australian permanent resident. Please refer to USQ International for information about entry requirements, visa arrangements and
how to apply.

Program fees
Domestic full fee paying place
Domestic full fee paying places are funded entirely through
the full fees paid by the student. Full
fees vary depending on the courses that are taken. You are
able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the Course Fee Finder.
Domestic full fee paying students may be eligible to defer their
fees through a Government loan called FEE-HELP.
International full fee paying place
International students pay full
fees. Full fees vary depending on the courses that are taken
and whether they are studied on-campus, via distance education/online.
You are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the Course Fee Finder.

Required time limits
Students have a maximum of 4 years to complete this program.

The following minimum configuration is recommended:

video display card capable of displaying more than 256 colours

Windows 98, Macintosh system 8.6 or later operation system

56kb modem.
Students will also require regular access to email and the World
Wide Web.
Students studying courses with multimedia, journalism, public
relations and media production content may be expected to work in
basic HTML, and/or programs such as Adobe PageMaker, Photoshop, Premier,
Macromedia Director and Quark XPress or similar software. Please note,
not all courses may teach how to use these advanced applications.
However, students are welcome to work in these programs at their own
discretion and may require a higher minimum computer configuration
to do so. Students taking Multimedia Studies courses should normally
have knowledge of web design programs such as FrontPage and Dreamweaver.

Exemptions
Applicants who have completed appropriate courses from other
universities may apply for up to four units of exemption.
