Program focus
The aim of this program is to provide English language preparation
for tertiary study based on the personal and intellectual transition
required by individual students to succeed in higher education in
the Australian context. It aims to develop thinking processes and
academic English skills to prepare students from non-English speaking
backgrounds for university education. It provides this transition
for international students not fully prepared academically or requiring
a higher level of English for tertiary study.

Program objectives
On successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes
program, this program, students should be able to demonstrate:

an understanding of, and an adjustment to, the academic cultural
context of the Australian university;
-
a capacity to take control of their own learning by using appropriate
learning strategies;
-
confidence and ability to think critically and to analyse an
argument;
-
competence in accessing and communicating concepts and ideas
in spoken and written form as appropriate to the higher education
context; and
-
a capacity to establish working relationships with their lecturers
and other students.

Admission requirements

Resident status: students on international student visas
or students from non-English speaking backgrounds resident in Australia
-
Minimum academic requirements: completion of senior secondary
schooling in the home country or Year 12 in an Australian High
School or attempted 'A' levels or mature-age entry.

EAP - An entry
level of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
EAP II (undergraduate and coursework)
-An entry level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
EAP II (research) -
An entry level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent

How to apply
International students
This program is offered to
international students. An international student is a person who is
not an Australian or New Zealand citizen and not an Australian permanent
resident. Please refer to USQ International for information about entry requirements, visa arrangements and
how to apply.
Domestic students
Admission to USQ is made by lodging
an Open Access College direct entry application form.

Program fees
International full fee paying place
International students pay full
fees. Full fees vary depending on the courses that are taken
and whether they are studied on-campus, via distance education/online.
You are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the Course Fee Finder.
Fee exempt places
Fee exempt places are available to all domestic students wishing
to enrol in the Tertiary Preparation Program. Further information
can be obtained by contacting TPP Student Support or visiting the TPP website.

Program structure
EAP I
Students must enrol in two courses:
EAP II (Undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students
Students select one additional course based upon faculty pre-requisites
from the following:

EAP 7381 - Applied Communications (Level A)

EAP7382 - Applied Communications (Level B)
-
EAP7383 - Applied Communications (Level C)
EAP II (Postgraduate research and doctoral students)
Students must enrol in the three core courses:

EAP7320 - Communication Processes

EAP7340 - Academic English Skills
-
EAP7350 - Language of Research (2 credit points)

Program completion requirements
To successfully complete the program and be recommended for
undergraduate degree entry to programs requiring IELTS 6 English proficiency,
students must successfully complete and achieve a passing grade in
all courses in the program. To successfully complete the program and
be recommended for postgraduate degree entry to programs requiring
IELTS 6.5 English proficiency, students must successfully complete
all courses in the program and in addition achieve an A grade in EAP7320
and EAP7340 and a passing grade in EAP7350.

Required time limits
Standard duration of the program is a minimum of 20 weeks and
a maximum of 36 weeks.

This program is delivered across all semesters up to five times
per year.
