Program focus
This program focuses on the development of academic English language skills, academic research and referencing techniques, study skills and independent learning strategies.

Program aims
The principal aim of this one-semester program is to provide English language preparation for tertiary study based on the personal and intellectual transition required by individual students to succeed in higher education. It aims to develop thinking processes and academic English skills to prepare students for university education. It provides this transition for international students not fully prepared academically for tertiary study.

Program objectives
On successful completion of the UNIPREP program students should be able to demonstrate:

an understanding of, and an adjustment to the academic cultural context of the Australian university

a capacity to take control of their own learning by using appropriate learning strategies

confidence and ability to think critically and to analyse an argument
-
competence in accessing and communicating concepts and ideas in spoken and written form as appropriate to the higher education context

a capacity to establish working relationships with their lecturers and other students.

Admission requirements
Applicants must have English language proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL score of 525 (196 electronic form) or for an on-campus student 50 per cent on the USQ language proficiency test. The minimum academic requirements for applicants are the completion of senior secondary schooling in the home country or Year 12 in an Australian high school or completed 'A' levels or mature-age entry. Applicants are required to have international student visas or be Australian residents from a non-English speaking background.

International students
This program is offered to international students. An international student is a person who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen and not an Australian permanent resident. Please refer to USQ International for information about entry requirements, visa arrangements and how to apply.

International full fee paying place
International students pay full fees. Full fees vary depending on the courses that are taken and whether they are studied on-campus, via distance education/online. You are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the Course Fee Finder.

Program structure
The program requires concurrent enrolment and study of four non-award courses over a minimum period of one semester (14 weeks) and a maximum period of two semesters (28 weeks). Applicants who have accepted offers into their undergraduate programs conditional on the successful completion of UNIPREP must undertake the following three courses:

Students may require more than one semester of UNIPREP mathematics to qualify for the exit pre-requisite level to enter the program of their choice. At the end of one semester students with UNIPREP pre-requisite grades enter a program.

Program completion requirements
To successfully pass the program and be recommended for degree entry to programs requiring IELTS 6 English proficiency, students must pass all their UNIPREP courses and achieve a grade of B or higher in the Communication Processes course. For a recommendation to postgraduate study or programs requiring IELTS 6.5, you must pass all UNIPREP courses and achieve a grade of A or higher in the Communication Processes and English for Academic Purposes course.

Recommended enrolment pattern
The program is delivered across one semester, three times per year. All courses are delivered concurrently. Students will usually complete the program within one semester of study.
