Program focus

This program aims to provide two key paths of study: an enhanced understanding of the basic issues and principles in the community sector and the development of a theoretical framework for people interested in becoming professional counsellors. The program affords the opportunity to engage in specialised study including indigenous, psychology, and child and family minors.

Career opportunities

This is a foundation program for people who wish to work in community organisations, community development and in the counselling field as youth counsellors, welfare workers and support workers.

Professional accreditation

Counselling is currently an unregulated industry and there are no legal requirements for professional accreditation. Graduates who complete the Bachelor of Human Services (Counselling) may apply for membership with a professional counselling association, including the Australian Counselling Association.
