In this section:  Program focus
The Master of Business is an advanced academic program for graduates
of any discipline or for students with extensive relevant business
experience. This program aims to develop generic business skills and
to extend those in a specialised area.
 Accounting and sustainable business
This specialisation provides advanced study in corporate environmental
management, environmental politics and policy, and accounting and
finance issues related to sustainability. Graduates in Business (or
related disciplines) may be eligible for up to four exemptions for
foundation courses, to be granted on the basis of prior successful
completion of relevant undergraduate study.
 Applied finance
This specialisation provides advanced study in finance, including
global financial markets, investment management strategies and international
financial management. Graduates in Business (or related disciplines)
may be eligible for up to four exemptions for foundation courses,
to be granted on the basis of prior successful completion of relevant
undergraduate study.
Graduates of this specialisation meet the educational entrance
requirements to become a Senior Associate member of the Financial
Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia), and meet the education
requirements for professional membership of the Finance and Treasury
Association (FTA).
 Business forensics
This specialisation focuses on the prevention and detection
of fraud and manipulation of financial reports. It provides advanced
study in forensic accounting, financial statement analysis, business
intelligence and information security, which are key skills for accountants
who wish to specialise in this field. Graduates in Business (or related
disciplines) may be eligible for up to four exemptions for foundation
courses, to be granted on the basis of prior successful completion
of relevant undergraduate study.
 Information systems
This specialisation provides advanced study in information systems
planning and implementation, decision support, data communications,
project management, information security and strategy. Graduates in
Business (or related disciplines) may be eligible for up to four exemptions
for foundation courses, to be granted on the basis of prior successful
completion of relevant undergraduate study.
 Personal financial planning
This specialisation provides advanced study in financial planning,
for candidates wishing to practise as a financial planning professional.
Completion of the Master of Business with this specialisation
enables graduates to satisfy the requirements to become licensed as
financial services providers or authorised representatives and provides
graduates with advanced standing into the CFP® Certification Program
with the Financial Planning Association of Australia. (Any exemptions
granted may affect this standing so the student is advised to confer
with the association).
 Property
This specialisation provides a concise, focused program that
considers all aspects of property, including the development of new
property projects, ownership and management of property assets, and
consideration of the legal environment in which projects are managed.
Graduates in business and property-related disciplines may be
eligible for up to four exemptions for elective courses, to be granted
on the basis of prior successful completion of relevant undergraduate
study.
 Program aims

Upon completion of the Master of Business students will be able

 Admission requirements
Subject to approval by the Director of Postgraduate Studies,
admission to the Master of Business degree will be available to graduates
with an approved bachelor degree.
Applicants for the Accounting and Sustainable Business and Business
Forensics specialisations must hold one of the following from a recognised
University:

an approved undergraduate degree in Commerce (Accounting) or
a related discipline, or
-
a Master of Professional Accounting, or
-
a Diploma of Business subject to the approval of the of Director
of Postgraduate Studies.
Candidates who do not have a degree may be permitted to enrol
in the Postgraduate Certificate in Business, provided that they
have a minimum of five years full-time equivalent work experience,
which includes relevant experience, as determined by the Director
of Postgraduate Studies. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum
GPA of 4.0, they will be eligible to articulate into the Master of
Business.
International applicants must have met the University's
English language requirements or have completed the University's
ELICOS/EAP program.

International students
This program is offered to international students. An international
student is a person who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen

 Program fees
Domestic full fee paying place
Domestic full fee paying places are funded entirely through
the full fees paid by the student. Full fees vary depending on the
courses that are taken. You are able to calculate the fees for a particular
course via the Course Fee
Finder. Domestic full fee paying students may be eligible
to defer their fees through a Government loan called FEE-HELP.
International full fee paying place
International students pay full fees. Full fees vary depending
on the courses that are taken and whether they are studied on-campus,
via distance education/online. You are able to calculate the fees
for a particular course via the Course Fee Finder.
 Program structure
The program is comprised of 12 units. A student must complete
one specialisation (which will appear on their testamur).
Note: It is assumed that students, when selecting 8000
level courses, have a basic knowledge in these areas (either from
their undergraduate degree or from relevant work experience)

must first obtain permission from the Director of Postgraduate Studies
before enrolling in BUS8101 Business Project A

. Enrolment in the project courses is contingent upon
the availability of a suitable supervisor.
 Required time limits
Students have a maximum of 6 years to complete this program.
 Articulation
It is possible for students who do not meet standard admission
requirements to articulate into the Master of Business from the Postgraduate Certificate in Business. Upon completion and achievement
of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they will be eligible to articulate into
the Master of Business.
Students who wish to articulate to the higher award must lodge
an application for entry to the relevant program.
 Exit points
A student who chooses not to complete or who does not maintain
good standing in this program will be permitted to exit with a lesser
qualification as set out below, provided that they have met the requirements
of that program.
-
A student who successfully completes eight Master of Business
units may, upon application, exit with a Postgraduate Diploma of Business.
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of at
least one specialisation may have one specialisation shown on their
testamur.
-
A student who successfully completes all requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Business may, upon application, exit with that
qualification. A student who has successfully completed all the requirements
of a four unit specialisation may have that specialisation shown on
their testamur.
 Exemptions
Candidates for admission to the Master of Business may be eligible
for a maximum of six units of exemptions. With the approval of the
Director of Postgraduate Studies these exemptions may include up to
four unspecified exemptions, to be granted on the basis of prior successful
completion of relevant undergraduate study, where a student is studying
a specialisation in the same or similar discipline as their undergraduate
study.
Exemptions granted for equivalent postgraduate study from a
recognised university or institution must meet the following specific
requirements:

the course passed was taken at least at Masters or equivalent
level
-
the course was passed within five years prior to the application
(courses up to 10 years old may be considered if evidence is provided
that the applicant has been employed in that field) and
-
the course passed is equivalent in objectives, content and weightings
to a course prescribed in the Master of Business course, or alternatively,
the course is suitable as an elective.
Applicants for enrolment in the Master of Business (Property)
who are graduates of the PCA Diploma in Property Development can gain
an additional exemption if they have completed the relevant assessment
requirements. Full details can be obtained from the Faculty of Business.
Claims for exemption should be submitted prior to or at the
time of enrolment in a course. Each claim will be assessed on individual
merit in line with the Faculty’s exemption policies. Exemptions
approved in this program will not automatically apply to other programs
offered by USQ. Please contact the Faculty of Business for
further information.
Note: Where exemptions are granted, maximum and minimum
duration will be adjusted in the same proportion as exemptions, for
example, where six exemptions are granted, maximum time will be three
years and minimum duration will be two terms.
