Program focus
This Honours program also serves as the first year of a two-year
Masters program, and may be taken in only one of four strands: Solo
Performance, Studio Teaching, Instrumental/Vocal Accompaniment or
Orchestral Studies (practical). In addition to intensive work in one
of the four streams, the program includes courses in Ensemble Music
(practical), Structural Analysis and Music, Research and Scholarship.

Program aims
The program aims to produce graduates who have specialised and
advanced training in the areas of music performance, music teaching,
accompaniment or orchestral playing. They will also have the intellectual
and practical skills necessary to apply knowledge in further study,
research, employment, and community service.

Program objectives
On successful completion of the program students should demonstrate:
-
enhanced professional skills in music teaching, performance,
accompaniment or orchestral playing
-
the ability to evaluate musical performance and to develop standards
of musical criticism
-
the practical and professional competence necessary for entry
into the musical profession at an appropriately qualified level
-
effective leadership in musical activity.

Admission requirements
Students completing with a grade point average of 5/7 in a Bachelor of Music degree or a Bachelor of Arts
degree from USQ or another recognised university (with
at least 60 per cent of their program in Music) may be admitted to
the Bachelor of Music (Honours). Applicants will be required to attend
an interview and audition at which they will demonstrate on their
chosen instrument or voice a conceptual understanding of the works
they perform as well as technical fluency, a high standard of aural
perception, as well as a sound knowledge of musical forms and music
literature. An aptitude for their chosen specialisation must also
be demonstrated.
International applicants must have met the University's
English language requirements or have completed the University's
ELICOS/UNIPREP program.

Program fees
Student contribution amount

but students are also required to make a contribution. This contribution
is called the ‘student contribution’. For more information
about student contribution amounts, including the calculation of fees
for a particular program of study, refer to USQ fees.
Tuition fee
Domestic fee-paying places are funded entirely through the tuition/direct
fees paid by the student. Tuition/direct fees vary depending on the
courses that are taken. For more information about Tuition Fees, including
the calculation of fees for a particular program of study, refer to USQ Fees.
International fees
International students pay tuition fees. For details about international
student fees, refer to the International Fee Schedule provided by USQ International.

Program structure
The Bachelor of Music (Honours) program consists of eight units
of study and comprises two core courses and four major courses. Study
is available in piano, pipe organ, singing, and most orchestral instruments.

Required time limits
Students have a maximum of 3 years to complete this program.

Core courses
A core course is central to the achievement of the objectives
of the program. The courses provide a basic understanding of some
principal issues relating to music study at postgraduate level. The
core courses in the program are MUS4000 and MUS4001 Structural Analysis in Music.

Major studies
A Major Study is a compulsory group of courses having not less
than four units in value within the program and is designed to provide
students with a variety of essential skills and an appropriate range
and depth of knowledge for the chosen discipline. The major courses
in the Bachelor of Music (Honours) are either in Music Performance
(Solo, Accompanist or Orchestral Playing) or Music Teaching.
